I had no idea what I wanted to do growing up. So when I had to start thinking about what to study in college, I was lost. I didn't have any overarching interest that drowned out my interest in other subjects. I always loved to learn, but I couldn't find one topic that entirely consumed my attention. So to start thinking about career paths, I decided to look for commonalities in the things I enjoyed learning about across various fields. What I realized was that I enjoyed systems thinking. I liked looking at a problem and developing a model of different variables and interactions, then tinkering with these variables and interactions to find an optimal solution. Understanding that this is the mindset I use, I needed to find a field that presented a problem with large amounts of variables and interactions and would be a fulfilling problem to try and help solve. That is why I decided to study healthcare. It provided a significant challenge with endless systems, and helping to improve health outcomes would be extremely satisfying work. That is why I chose to attend the University of Illinois to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Community Health. The University of Illinois' community health program taught me the basics of our current health system while also pursuing areas such as business, geographical information science, and statistics. Skills that will enable me to help develop solutions fixing the current broken American health system. I am looking forward to applying what I learned at the University of Illinois in my continued work to help improve health outcomes for all.
